On 12th June, the Directorate of Immigration Services announced that the Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National Government, launched a 60-day rapid results initiative (RRI) on 26th May 2021 to expedite the processing and issuance of citizenship and permanent residence.
According to the announcement, this initiative will run for two months, from 2nd June to 31st July 2021, and the services that will be expedited during this initiative will include:
- Regaining Kenyan citizenship
- Citizenship for spouses, children, widows and widowers of Kenyan citizens
- Citizenship for lawful residents (Investors)
- Permanent residence for spouses and children of Kenyan citizens
- Permanent residency for Ex- Kenyans
- Permanent residency for lawful residents (investors)
The Directorate will also focus on clearing the backlog and establishing a framework for speedy processing and issuing the documents above. Kenyans in the diaspora can also present their applications to the nearest mission abroad for onward transmission to Nairobi.
